Growing up in a Chevy-focused family, Ford’s were often pushed aside as inferior machines. Mustangs were weak, the Taurus was hideous, anc the F150 didn’t cut the mustard. Of course things changed during the late 2000s when Ford seemed to get their act together. No model showed this as much as the 2009-2014 F150.
When the new F150 debuted in 2008, I was taken aback. It was handsome, well chiseled, and a vast improvement over the eleventh gen that came before it. It made every other truck look outdated.
T he improvements continued on into the interior as well. It wasn’t the most luxuriously appointed cabin but Ford did their best with upgraded fit and finish, quality leathers, and wood trim on the higher end models.
The twelfth gen F150 is probably one of the biggest game changers for Ford. It showed the progress for American automakers post-2008, and it showed how much we can progress in the face of new emissions laws with its Ecoboost V6.
It’s the first F150 that opened my eyes to the F-Series.

I’ve been in a lot of modern F150's and I always think the same thing:
Who the hell thought this was a pleasing dash? Even the current models are headscratchers.

Build quality was terrible. Cab corners rust out real quick too.

I kind of like how simple they are in base models.

I’m just here for the Tremor and Raptor.
The 13th gen is life.

In Fords defense, they did address the rest problem in the 13th generation

I guy I work with has a crew cab 4x4 with the 5.4 in burgundy red - has 100k on it and still looks and runs basically like new. I believe it is a Lariat. He absolutely loves it.

Could I have a little insight into how/why there is such thing as a ‘Chevy Family’ or ‘Ford Family’? I just don’t understand. It’s the nature of competition that competing companies’ directly competing models will leapfrog each other but come on. Like yes the Taurus was ugly but the Malibu wasn’t exactly a looker either and the Taurus was clearly better engineered if a swing and a miss from a design standpoint. The F150 and Silverado have been incrementally l eapfrogging one another for decades. Sometimes one or the other has an advantage but they’ve always been nearly identical capability and qualitywise , same with the Mustang and Camaro, not to mention the Camaro not even existing most of the early 2000s.

I don’t know it’s just something that sort of happened. My dad kept buying Silverados and it rubbed off on everyone else.

So how can we never talk about trucks and still have almost exactly the same opinion?

I always thought you’d never be interested in trucks.

Im interested in the fast ones and ones that will get a hypothetical track car to and from the track.

I saw the f-650 supertruck and I knew. That truck was going to have my babies.

Not really. Fit and finish is worse than ever. Stamping aluminium is hard.
We get new trucks in the body shop all the time where the doors are so misaligned from the factory.
Plus they're still having corrosion issues.

Leave it to Ford to make a mostly aluminum truck have corrosion issues lol

I had a such a different take growing up in a Ford / Honda family.
Honda over Toyota cars, Ford over Chevy trucks.
We had a family member who had bought a Silverado, he wasn’t allowed to park it on the driveway during parties.
I always looked Silverado’s as 2nd place, a Pepsi instead of a Coke. Maybe I need to be more open minded as well.

We don’t have much love for soccer (football) here in the states , so we need something else absolutely irrational to be passionate about. My dad was a “Ford guy”, so therefore I am too, although I haven’t actually owned one in 15 years because they suck. But they suck less than Chevy, and I’ll fight you if you disagree ;)

More like in the United States we like to turn everything into a team sport. From actual team sports to politics to whether we like cars built by one conglomerate or another one.
Oh, also, obviously pickup trucks should be built by Toyota because mine was built by Toyota and it was built in Texas before you call it an import SO THERE. :P

My Dad has an ‘09 XLT, and that truck has done more to turn me off of Ford than anything else* . The truck is still under 100,000 miles and even though he washes it pretty regularly, it’s nearly as rusty as my ‘99. The cab corners are gone, the rockers aren’t far behind, the bed corners by the tailgate are nearly rusted through, and I can see the bubbles forming at the fenders. The interior feels pretty cheap, scratches easily, the rubber/whatever material it is is peeling off the center council (bench seat) and the steering wheel foam is worn down to the metal rim. Then there’s the whole 5.4 cam phaser issue which took out the engine at 85k. But dammit if I still don’t love that truck, it tows excellent , the 5.4 makes great torque and power, and the 6 speed shifts smooth as silk. I’ll probably be needing a new truck in the next year, and while I’m still considering these, I’m actually leaning towards Ram.
*I also get to borrow new trucks frequently for my job and after driving all of them my opinions on each brand have changed over the years.

That’s Chevy. I don't understand how that hasn't been addressed. EVER!

I work in a body shop.
We get more rusty last gen Ford’s than GM’s.
Sure the GM might lose it’s box sides quicker but rusted cab corners on 5 year old trucks is pathetic.
I’d always choose n o n-structural rust to body rust.

Buuuuuut it still won’t hold its value compared to the Chevy. FACT!
